Beauty goodies from the kitchen shelf

 

ROSE WATER: A great cool, tightening pack to be applied after a facial massage. Applied with glycerin and lemon juice, it makes an effective body lotion for dry/normal skin.

EGG: Oily skin is balanced with a mask of egg white, a few drops of lime juice and a teaspoon of semolina. Leave on for half and hour, rub face gently with hands moistened with milk and wash off. Egg white is specially good for counteracting pimples. Dry skin is easily normalised by applying a mask prepared out off egg yolk, one tablespoon each of fresh milk, rose water and powder of dried peas. Leave on for half an hour and wash off, first with milk and then, water.

LIME JUICE: A natural bleach, mixed with gram flour, milk cream and honey of dry skin, and sandalwood powder and yoghurt for oily/normal skin. To eliminate freckles, use with milk, rose water, carrot juice and cucumber juice. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off.

Healthy Hair

The secrets of bountiful hair also remain hidden within the kitchen’s fold. Egg yolk is good for dry hair, while egg white balances out oily hair. It can be mixed in henna or used on its own. For healthy hair of all types, mix one cup yogurt, two teaspoons gram flour, White of an egg and juice of half lemon. If the problem is of dry hair, substitute egg white with a teaspoon of olive oil. Falling hair and dandruff are easily taken care of by applying plan curd on the hair for approximately half an hour before shampooing.

CARROT: For skin rejuvenation, grated carrot, or its juice, applied on the face for 15 minutes and washed off, is excellent.

POTATO: To get rid of freckles and blemishes, place then potato slices in sour buttermilk and rub on pace, thrice a week. Apply a moisturiser before this procedure.

MINT: For treating acne and cleansing oily skin, the juice of fresh mint leaves, applied with moist cotton, is effective. If refrigerated and kept in an airtight bottle, it remains fresh for a week.

CUCUMBER: To do away with dark circles and puffiness around the eyes, mix cucumber with and equal amount of milk, and chill. Sack cotton pads in it and keep on eyes for 10 minutes. Or, simply place chilled cucumber slices on the eyes for 15 minutes. Cucumber juice can be added to any face pack.

PAPAYA: For dry or dull skin, apply a mixture of the pulp of half a cup mashed papaya and teaspoon each of watermelon juice, lime juice, lime juice and honey.

MILK CREAM: To counteract dry skin and make it satin smooth, apply a teaspoon of milk cream, mixed with gram flour and a teaspoon of honey with a pinch of turmeric.

TOMATO: For alleviating oily skin, use with sandalwood powder, wheat husk and a few drops of lime juice.

HONEY: For a radiant glow, apply this nature moisturizer for about 20 minutes.
