Martini

There are probably more variations of this cocktail than any other. For the record, martinis are made with gin and very little dry vermouth. For traditionalists, vodka is not an option.

  • 3 ounces (2 jiggers) gin
  • 2 to 3 drops dry vermouth
  • 1 lemon twist or 1 pimiento-stuffed olive for garnish.
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the vermouth and gin, shake well, and strain it into a cocktail glass. Garnish the martini with the lemon twist or the olive.

  • Dash Angostura bitters
  • Maraschino cherry
Combine the whiskey, vermouth, dash of bitters and ice cubes in a shaker half-filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with the cherry.

In a Collins glass, stir the lemon juice and the sugar until the sugar is dissolved, add the gin and enough ice cubes to fill the glass, then stir well. Top it off with the club soda or the seltzer water, stir again and garnish with a lemon slice.
