Here are some guidelines to looking and feeling good, whatever your size, and some Web sites that cater to large women.

Get the right size. Most sites have charts to help you gauge how their clothes will fit your body, but in general, a 55-inch waist and, say, 65-inch hips will fit size 6X, which translates to 58-60 in dress sizes. Plus Woman presents a size chart in an easy-to-read grid. If you're not sure, contact designers' customer service representatives. (Sizes 14-26 are generally considered plus sizes, and over size 26 is considered super-size.) 

Buy colors that flatter you (maybe even hire a color consultant for advice). Basic black may make you feel thinner, but if it makes your face look bad, what good is it? 

Don't wait to live until after you've lost weight. Celebrate yourself, your life and your beauty now. 

Pamper yourself. Massages, manicures, facials and pedicures all make you feel and look great. 

Get a regular haircut. One of the greatest fashion mistakes is to wait too long between trims. 

Always keep a style emergency kit on hand: emery board, brush, lipstick, earrings, long scarf. 

Invest in a shopping consultant. They can save you money by finding clothes that you'll like and wear. 

Accessorize. Scarves and jewellery are wonderful vehicles to articulate your style. 

If an outfit makes you feel fat or unattractive, get rid of it. 

Don't buy too small. Loose-fitting clothes don't necessarily make you look bigger. Buy clothes that are comfortable and attractive. 

If the size on the inside of the tag bugs you, cut it out!
