Look Out!! Here's Kumar Again!

Share

For those of you who missed the gut-busting 'Kumar' while he was down in J-Town, here's a chance to catch him live again! Kumar: Stripped Bare & Standing Up returns to the Esplanade Theatre, Singapore by popular demand.

This very show was performed in March last year and now its rerun of only six shows are once again ready for launch next month. The outrageously funny Kumar sold out this very show in 2009 and had everyone squealing with laughter. Now for the encore!

After seventeen years in the "funny biz", Kumar, the undisputed drag queen of local comedy will strip off more than just the skin-tight panty hose and turn his 'no-holds-barred' wicked sense of humour onto himself. Nothing is sacred as his shares the hilarious (yet moving) stories of his growing up years with his dad, how he was discovered in a dress after Boom Boom Room and his many escapades during Basic Military Training. However, there is nothing basic about this show which incorporates a wonderful 'min-docu' and culminates in Kumar showing off his dancing skills with Singapore's best known tabla-man, Maniam! It's theatre-magic not to be missed!

Produced and presented by Dream Academy Playhouse, come ready to laugh your heads off as Kumar gives you a heads up on what it's really like to be Singapore's Drag Diva. So regardless of race, language or religion, Kumar will make you feel oh’ so good for that one night, even your economic woes will be blown away!

Kumar is man with many talents. Apart from stage acting for plays and hosting a TV cooking show, he also has a new TV series called 'P.I.Kumar' where he plays a man! His cooking show is like a travel show where he presents the culinary history of the country with a funny spin conducted in a mix of English and Tamil. With a typical work day that starts with shopping followed by yoga, a visit to his hair-salon and getting ready for his shows, Kumar visit’s his family every Sunday and catches a movie on his relax days.

Kumar's philosophy is that everything in his life has been accidental. He believes that if you work hard and believe in your dreams, there is a path laid out for you. Accidental or otherwise, he is one hell of an entertainer! Having adorned his first dress since he was five when his mother and sisters played dress-up with him, he stated that he finds cross dressing a way he can safely slam both men and women without having anyone waiting outside for him with a baseball bat.

Originally starting off as a scripted show written by other famous theatre folk from Singapore, he now pens his own script with the help of his own creative team which takes him about two to three days before he thinks it's perfect. With aspirations to have his own TV Talk Show five years from now, he brought the house down with his camaraderie last month here in Jakarta.

'The Kumar Show' was perky, witty and facetious and he ended his night in J-Town with his idea of what sex is. He cat-walked off the stage that night with his closing line - Sex is an injection with affection to the mid-section with the projection without any objection and hopefully no infection! Woot Woot!

You can catch him weekly on Monday's at Hard Rock Cafe, on Wednesday's at 3Monkeys located at Holland Village and On Fridays and Saturdays at 3Monkeys located at Orchard Towers.
