Direct Admission

Foreign nationals whether residing in India or abroad are admitted to the IITs and IT-BHU under the following categories : 

  1. Self-financing Scheme
  2. Cultural Exchange Fellowship Programme (administered by Indian Council of Cultural Relations, Govt. of India, Azad Bhavan, Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi - 110 002.)
Under the self-financing scheme, some seats are filled by Direct admission for eligible, qualified foreign nationals.

The Indian Government scholarship holders are directly nominated by ICCR to the Institute. These students must also satisfy the eligibility criteria of IITs and IIT-BHU for admission of foreign nationals.

Eligibility Criteria

Direct Admission is open to Foreign Nationals or Indian Nationals who had been studying abroad for five years in last 8 years and have done 10+2 from abroad.

To be eligible for direct admission, the applicant must have:

  1. born on or after October 1, 1970.
  2. passed qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination of a Public School/Board/University or Passed in any foreign country an examination which is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the final examination of 10+2 system with Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics or Passed High School Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Secured the highest grades in at least two of the three subjects namely Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics and second highest grade in the third subject in a five letter grade system. All other letter grade systems will be normalised into the five-letter grade for deciding the eligibility. Where marks are awarded, the candidates must have secured at least eighty percent of the aggregate marks in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics with at least seventy percent marks in each of these three subjects, and taken SAT -II tests in Mathematics Level IIC, Physics and Chemistry and obtain a score of 1800 .
The applicant should request Educational Testing Service, Princeton, P.O. Box No. 6200 NJ 08541, USA to send the SAT-II score directly to the Organising Chairman, JEE-2000, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi - 110 016, India under code 0035 so as to reach latest by 1st June 2000.

In the case of an Indian National, the qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination should have been passed from abroad only.

The following tables summerize the channels of admission and the admission CRITERIA for JEE and DASA:

Important

  1. Candidates must exercise their option of choosing JEE or DASA channel of admission at the time of making the application. If a candidate exercises both the options simultaneously, he / she will attract disqualification from both the channels.
  2. Candidates desirous to be considered for Direct Admission under DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) Category (Serial Nos. 2 and 3 in Table 1), should obtain Information Brochure and Application Form for DASA from Chairman, JEE, IIT Bombay, Powai, Mumbai - 400 076 by sending a bank draft for US $ 100 in favourof JEE, IIT Bombay before 30th April 2000.

Casual Studentship  

A student who is registered for an Engineering/Technology degree in a recognised Institute/University in India or abroad is eligible for being considered as a casual student at IIT Delhi. He/she should be officially sponsored by the Institute/University where he/she is studying. Such a studentship is granted to carry out research or to avail laboratory or other academic facilities or for attending a formal set of courses, for a maximum period of 6 months/one semester. More details may be had from the Asstt. Registrar (UGS ) or Asst.. Registrar (PGS & R) as may be applicable.
