Indonesian imports during 2005

Indonesian Imports during 2005 increased by 23.69% to US $ 57.55 billion as compared to 46.52 billion in 2004. Following is the break-up of increase in imports:

Oil & Gas 48.24% (US $ 17.39 billion)

Non Oil & Gas 15.42% (US$ 40.16 billion)

Japan, China & United states were the largest source of Indonesia’s non-oil imports in 2005, in that order.

During 2004 machinery and transport equipment imports dominated the commodities imported by Indonesia, by value,. Mineral fuels, lubricants etc. and chemicals were the other major commodities imported by Indonesia in 2004. A break-up of the imports totaling US$ 46524.5 million in 2004, by 1 digit SITC commodity description, is as under:

Singapore was the top of exporting country to Indonesia during 2004 with a share of 14.1% of Indonesia’s total imports. The other major exporting countries to Indonesia were Japan, U.S., China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Australia (see chart ). India stood at the 12th position in 2004 with a share of 2.37% of Indonesia’s total imports.

Machinery and transport equipments are primarily imported from Japan, Germany, and Singapore. This commodity comprised as much as 60% of the exports from Japan to Indonesia in 2004. Food and live animals are mainly sourced from Australia, China, US, India and Thailand Mineral fuels, lubricants etc. are chiefly imported from Singapore, followed by China, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. Chemicals are mainly sourced from Singapore and Republic of Korea. Crude materials, inedible oils are primarily imported from U.S. and Australia. Japan, Republic of Korea, China and Taiwan are the main exporters of manufactured goods to Indonesia.

Imports into Indonesia during 2004, from fifteen major countries of origin, confined to five prominent commodities is given in Appendix I. Import of some selected commodities into Indonesia during 2004 is given in Appendix II.

 

Global imports into Indonesia in 2004 amounted to US $ 46524.5 million. India’s share was US $ 1,102.43 million, i.e., 2.36% of Indonesian global imports. As may be seen from the table below, except for organic chemicals, iron and steel and cereals, India has a negligible share in the major items of import of Indonesia in 2004.
