Study
Skills

In
managing your study time it really pays to have a regular study plan.
Here are some general principles to bear in mind when establishing
your plan:
- Make use of "dead time"- think of ways
you could study in small units of time so you don't waste time!
e.g. use mind maps or index cards
- Make best use of daylight
hours — most people work better during the day than at night -
even if you have to get up earlier
- Put tasks in order of priority — that way you
get important things done first.
- Keep your schedule brief — spending too much
time detailing your schedule is just another way of avoiding doing
your studies.
- Near exam time plan in blocks of time — usually
one hour (50 minutes to study and 10 minutes break), but remember
you can still get a lot done in shorter periods.
- Make sure you get enough sleep — most people
need at least 8 hours.
- Eat regular well-balanced meals, and drink plenty
of water. Poor diets can cause irritability and tiredness, as well
as affecting motivation.
- Don't underestimate how long things are going to
take — better to start early and finish early than start later
and run out of time!
- Plan to include some time for relaxation and
recreation
