Madhumita, a Young Achiever

Mademoiselle Madhu

Madhumita Sundaraman, was felicitated as YOUNG ACHIEVER - FILM MAKER by SUYAM Charitable Trust, Chennai and was presented MADEMOISELLE award along with seven other eminent women on 8th March 2006 (Women's Day). This is in consequence to Madhu's short films getting International awards earlier and her recent short film "YOURS AFFECTIONATELY" participating in international film festivals.

The awards were given to 8 eminent women from Chennai (one IAS officer, one sports-person, one social worker) including Madhu. She was the youngest at 22 to receive such an award. Madhu is one of those Indo-Indians doing bright internationally. As you may be aware, she finished her schooling in GMIS and then did her Multimedia degree (video/film making) of four years in La Salle School of Arts, Singapore. She achieved two international awards from Sandberg Institute, Netherlands the most reputed video institution in the world - for her one minute videos. One was on Indian "bindhi" culture and the other one on “Women and taboos". She was interviewed by BBC for these awards and her interviews posted on their website too. She was interviewed by Jaya TV, Chennai as an eminent personality, and film-maker in 2004.

She was recommended to the New York Film Academy in Hollywood (Universal Studios) for a specialized Masters program in film making by her College faculty and was selected for the course in 2005 January. She completed the course in one year (the course is for 18 months and she was allowed to finish the same early due to her credits). She did many short films during this time and her latest short film of 14 minutes duration was screened at Warner Brothers preview theatre in Hollywood attended by the VIPs of Hollywood. The film "Yours affectionately" was selected as the best film and has been recommended for participation in 11 film festivals around the world by the New York Film Academy.

Suyam Charitable Trust which is a south India based social welfare trust heard about her credentials when she was in Chennai recently and decided to give her an award on the International Women's day celebration at Chennai on the 8th March 2006.
