Chhal

It's
Diwali... but with a difference. The festival of lights... errs, no,
festival of bullets! That's right. If you hear fire-cracking sounds in
your neighborhood, think again. It might be the sound of bullets.
That's exactly what comes to your mind after watching Hansal Mehta's
world down under. That's 'Chhal' for you. 'Live by the gun, die by the
gun'. The saying perfectly fits here.
To get even with the underworld, the police dig up a plan to tackle
them. According to the strategy, a police officer will act as an
undercover cop, joining a gang headed by Girish (Prashant) and
supplying vital information to the police. The task is assigned to
Karan (Kay Kay), who in no time is able to gain Girish's confidence.
He rises from a mere newcomer to become the biggest caretaker of the
Girish gang.
Back here in the police department, there's trouble, as the mission
is in danger of abortion pre-maturely, thanks to the drastic workings
of the police vis a vis the politicians. Moreover, the unexpected turn
of events in Karan's life lead to making a choice between his national
duty and the trust disposed on him by Girish. It goes to the extent of
allowing Karan's romance with his sister Padmini (Jaya Seal), which
makes it even more interesting.
The film succeeds to an extent, in exposing the 'police-underworld'
nexus one more time, after so many films on the subject already viewed
over the years.
