Talking About Battery Drain
You have just spent hours charging the battery for your notebook. Why is your battery running dry again? The likely problem could be the PCMCIA modem that is in your system. Unless you are making plans to get onto the Net or hook up with a Local Area Network, these cards will only feed on your battery without being used. You do not have to remove your LAN and modem cards. To temporary disable your PCMCIA modem card’s functions, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click on the PC Card icon. Select Stop on the right device to turn off the modem.
Pointers to Prolonging Life
Some users tend to overcharge their laptops’ batteries. What do we mean by overcharging here? The basic mentality of most users is: as long as we continue passing electricity through batteries that are fully charged, we are ensured of a longer battery life. You should always allow your charged battery to drain completely, before recharging it. This helps to prolong your battery’s life. You may be interested to learn that batteries discharge, when left unused in a system for long periods. To avoid reducing their lifespan, remove battery from your notebook, and store it in a cool, dry place. Consider the sum of money you will be spending on a new battery, and the hassle of carrying an extra one with you. Remember not to mistreat your battery.
Full Power
How do you go about charging your notebook’s battery? Do you just plug it in and leave it to charge? To fully charge batteries, leave the case open when recharging. That will allow more heat to escape, while cooling your computer during the charging routine. Whether your system is a notebook or a PC, overheating will quicken their lifespan.
