TACKLE COMPULSIVE SHOPPING
- Plan your buying. Go shopping
only when you have fixed both your budget and the items you
need.
- Before you buy anything, ask
yourself if you really need it.
- Restrict your access to
plastic money and credit.
- Always take a friend or a
family member with you when you’re shopping.
- Get psychiatric help.
- Find a hobby that gives you
happiness and turn to it whenever you feel depressed or
emotionally down.
- Figure out the areas of your
life that are causing the void (which you fill by shopping)
and start working towards changing them.
- Whenever you feel the urge to
go on a shopping spree, try an alternative — try exercise.
- Carefully keep a record of all
your purchases for a month. Ask your spouse or a trusted
friend to tell you whether you have spent rationally or gone
off the deep end. Accept the criticism.
- Bypass sales.
