Junior Cricket Starting Again at JIS in February 2006

I’m sure you have enjoyed watching, or at least heard about the excellent cricket played over the past months with a classic Ashes Series in England followed by the World XI matches against Australia. Cricket certainly is on a high at the moment.

We had a lot of positive feedback from children and parents after last year’s inaugural season at JIS. The new season starts on 11 February and I am giving early warning to allow as many people as possible to participate. We would like to remind everybody that the major goal of the Junior Cricket League is to teach children new and enhance existing skills. We also encourage participation across as many boundaries as possible and allow children to practice skills learnt in match situations. Most of all, we encourage everyone to have fun.

Like anything, success depends upon a wide support base and I hope that many of you will continue to help out on Saturday mornings as you did last year.

The League will start on Saturday, 11 February and will run through to Saturday, 13 May 2006. Given the feedback from last year we will make some minor changes to the format this year. We will run separate clinics for the younger kids (Kangas – generally under 10 years). These clinics will focus purely on skills development and will run for 1 hour from 8:00am to 9:00am every Saturday morning. The older kids will be split into teams and will play a match every Saturday starting at 9:00am whilst at the same time participate in specific skill clinics such as batting, bowling, and fielding.

Given our goal to encourage participation, remember that the League is open to children of all ages (boys and girls) as well as all skills levels (learners through to advanced). There will be a fee payable per child in order to cover ground costs and equipment which I expect to be the same as last year’s fee of Rp 350,000 per child.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could distribute this message to your children and friends. If anybody would like to participate in the League please ask them to send me an email at info@cricketindonesia.com giving me the child’s name, age and school they attend. The first signup will be held at JIS in early January 2006 but they can book their spot now by sending me an email.

Yours in Cricket
