No One Likes the long hours, but if you have to do it, how do you keep that schedule from killing you ?

When you’re not working, try to do non – linear, creative projects that use the right side of your brain (the right side of the brain handles creativity; the left side
handles analytical tasks), like art projects, music, or dance lessons. |

The more stress we’re under, the more you need a support group. Make time to get together with friends every week, even if it’s for only 30 minutes or so. |

As long as you have to work long hours, promote camaraderie with your group. Bring in beanbag chairs for sleeping or bring in food to share with team members during those long hours. |

When you’re away from work, try to truly be away from work. Unless you job specifically requires that you be on call 24/7, don’t fell compelled to check e-mail or voice ail during you non-work hours. |

It’s tempting when you’re under
stress to late everything slide---exercise, proper nutrition, and so on. Instead of an “all or nothing” mentality.
Realize that every little bit helps. If you can only spare 10 minutes for a brisk walk, do it. If you can’t get
eight hours of sleep, at least try to eat right. |

Schedule one hour of uninterrupted time to write down the things that are draining the most energy from you. See if you can eliminate same of those tasks from you to-do list-by delegating, hiring them out, or simply deciding that they’re not urgent. |

Don’t let
yourself get overwhelmed by thinking about all you have do to. Focus on one task at a time and don’t
think about the rest of the list until you’re done with the task at hand. |

Write down some of the things
you love to do that truly relax you (for example, going to the movies, getting a
massage, going for a bike ride), and make sure you reward yourself
at least once a week with one of the things from your list. |

When you really need go get work done, regulate access to
yourself. Figure out your best work time (maybe it’s mornings from 7 to 9) and then put a note on your cubicle, ignore the incoming e-mail, and turn off the phone. |

At the end of the project, organize a group outing or other reward to acknowledge hard work. |
