Wrap it Brilliantly

Whatever the shape of your gift, there's a clever way to dress it up. Use brown paper, newspaper, kitchen foil, bright tissue paper. Your friends will love the care you took.

Soft Toys
No need to hide a cute soft toy. Place on a large sheet of clear cellophane and bunch up. Make it pretty with baubles and bright ribbon.

Round

To keep wrapping neat, pleat brown paper as you go around the circumference. Cut a circle of paper, slightly smaller than the circumference and glue on. Fold tissue paper into a long strip and tie around the gift, bunching up at the top. Secure with tartan ribbon.

Shapeless

Towels, T-shirts, lingerie and all else you can roll up can be disguised as a giant cracker. Go halves with kitchen foil and tissue paper or tissue in two colours. Ordinary wrapping paper doesn't work well because you can't get well-fluffed ends.

Flat

No Need to explain how to wrap a slim box or a book. Finish off with a long strip of tissue paper, folded lengthwise and simply twisted. Separate the double layer and arrange so it looks like flowers.

Triangles and Odd Angles

Old magazines make colorful wrappers. Place gift on a large page and start by folding one side, tuck in corners and keep folding until you finish off somewhere in the middle.

Rectangle

Use leftover fabric or buy a few metres of cotton to use instead of paper. Top with a decorative poinsettia for Christmas.
Several Gifts
What do you do when you've got more than one gift? Put them in a stocking, a patterned paper bag or, if the gifts are pretty enough to be displayed (toiletries or jams and teas), a basket. Line the basket with tissue paper so you get a spillover of colour and tie basket with a matching scarf.

Cylinder

Pleat around the top and bottom circumferences and top with ribbons and curls.

Bottle

Silver balls and black lacy ribbons can make even newspaper look sexy. Combine black tissue with newspaper for the most elegantly dressed bottle  of wine.
