Mr. K.K. Ralhan

on India Talks

Mr. Ralhan has over 35 years of professional experience working in industrial field, the last 25 years being in Indonesia. During his early years in India, he had hands on experience in designing and developing instruments for the automotive industry. Later he went on to market and sell air conditioning and refrigeration systems for commercial and industrial buildings as well as air compressors for the process industries. He spent 9 years (from 1978) with Engineering Export Promotion Council, a semi-government institution of India, the last 7 of those in Indonesia as “Regional Manager”. During this period Mr. Ralhan traveled extensively in S-E Asia, Far East, and implemented various policy measures which helped increasing India’s export of engineering goods and services in the region including Indonesia.

During last 17 years, Mr. Ralhan has been associated in various capacities with Indonesia’s Kaltimex Group; which has interests in engineering, biotechnology, hotel, agro forestry and trading. Initially, as a ‘Senior Advisor’ to the group, he was responsible for diversifying, and restructuring the group’s Australian operations. Later he spearheaded the ‘Energy Division’ of the parent company which was spun off, as a separate legal company called P.T. Kaltimex Energi in 1996. Mr. Ralhan is not only the majority share holder of this company but the President Director / CEO as well. Mr. Ralhan has also to his credit the first I.P.P. power project of 23M.W. in Indonesia. The financing for this project was also structured and arranged by Mr. Ralhan.

Mr. Ralhan has to his credit the first of its kind, $7million, 10 M.W. cogeneration power project for a prestigious hotel and resort in Bali. Like the earlier ones, he developed this project from the scratch and arranged its financing. He also negotiated a two year operation and maintenance contract of this plant. All projects developed by Mr. Ralhan made profit and loans have been fully paid off.

Mr. Ralhan is an active speaker in seminars on ‘Cogeneration’ and ‘Energy Conservation’ in Indonesia. He has extensive networking and knowledge of business opportunities and practices in S.E. Asia. He was the Chairman, of the Indonesian Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (Australia) and currently the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Committee in the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and President of Indonesia – Sri Lanka Business Council.

Mr. Ralhan is a Mechanical Engineer with Post Graduation in ‘Marketing and Sales Management’. His wife is also an engineer and is in the Board of Hino Manufacturing, a large Japanese automotive joint venture company in Indonesia. His daughter a ‘Genetics Engineer’, is married to Jonathan Kine, a Computer Science Engineer of U.S. origin. They are staying in Jakarta at present. His son is also a Mechanical Engineer from University of Pennsylvania with a dual degree in Economics. He has also completed his Masters degree in Information Security Management from George Washington University. He is working in Boston with an Internet Security Company called Symantec. Mr. Ralhan is an avid follower of cricket and loves golf. He is a proud grandfather and dotes on his granddaughter Lara.
