ASEAN–India Bazaar 2026: Celebrating Culture, Creativity, Community, and Connection
On 23 May 2026, the Ballroom of The Westin Jakarta transformed into a vibrant showcase of cultures as ASEAN–India Bazaar 2026 welcomed more than 3,000 visitors and over 150 exhibitors for a day of celebration, collaboration, and cultural diplomacy.
Organized by Indoindians in collaboration with the Mission of India to ASEAN, the annual bazaar once again demonstrated how communities, culture, and creative economies can strengthen ASEAN–India relations beyond formal diplomacy.
At a time of growing global economic and geopolitical uncertainty, the event highlighted the increasing importance of people-to-people connectivity — creating meaningful spaces where dialogue, tradition, creativity, and shared experiences bring communities closer together.
A Grand Celebration of Culture and Diplomacy
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished diplomatic leaders and ASEAN representatives, including Sandeep Chakravorty, Srinivas Gotru, Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq, Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi, and Satvinder Singh.
The ceremonial beating of the Gong inauguration symbolized unity, peace, and the enduring friendship between India and Southeast Asia.
In her opening remarks, Poonam Sagar reflected on the deep historical ties connecting India and ASEAN:
“This is a celebration of the long and profound relationship between India and Southeast Asia — built over centuries through trade, culture, food, art, ideas, and people-to-people connections.”
A Festival of Arts, Performances, and Creativity
Visitors entering the bazaar were first welcomed by a stunning art exhibition featuring works from seven artists, creating an elegant and immersive cultural entrance to the event. The exhibition beautifully reflected the diversity, creativity, and artistic spirit shared across India and ASEAN.
Throughout the day, the main stage remained alive with vibrant performances that captivated audiences and celebrated multicultural traditions. Highlights included graceful Bharatanatyam performances, energetic Thai dance performances, lively BollyX dance showcases, live music acts, and a range of other cultural and contemporary performances that kept the atmosphere buzzing from morning until evening.
The event also featured interactive wellness and community activities, including the Meditation for Health session presented by Isha Foundation, offering visitors a calming space for reflection and holistic wellbeing amidst the excitement of the bazaar. Book club discussions and community interactions further enriched the experience.

A Culinary Journey Across ASEAN and India
One of the most vibrant areas of the bazaar was undoubtedly the food court, which remained packed and buzzing for most of the day. Visitors enjoyed an exciting culinary journey featuring authentic Indian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Malaysian, and Indonesian cuisine, alongside coffee, snacks, desserts, and street food favorites.
The lively dining atmosphere became a celebration in itself — where conversations, aromas, flavors, and shared dining experiences brought people together across cultures and communities.
Supporting Creative Economies and Community Entrepreneurs
The bazaar floor showcased over 150 exhibitors and vendors representing fashion, handicrafts, jewellery, wellness products, home décor, artisanal creations, and lifestyle brands from India, ASEAN countries, and Indonesia.
Embassy booths from ASEAN member states added a unique international dimension, allowing visitors to experience the richness of regional traditions and heritage firsthand. Meanwhile, the Mission of India to ASEAN presented authentic Indian products and cultural showcases that attracted strong public interest throughout the day.
More than just a marketplace, ASEAN–India Bazaar 2026 became a dynamic platform for cultural exchange, entrepreneurship, networking, and collaboration.
Strengthening ASEAN–India People-to-People Connectivity
As ASEAN and India continue to deepen engagement across trade, culture, education, tourism, and innovation, ASEAN–India Bazaar 2026 demonstrated the growing role of communities and cultural platforms in strengthening regional relationships.
The event reinforced the idea that diplomacy is not only built in meeting rooms and official forums, but also through shared human experiences — through food, music, art, storytelling, wellness, creativity, and community engagement.
The strong public turnout, enthusiastic participation, and growing media attention surrounding the bazaar reflected the increasing significance of cultural diplomacy and grassroots collaboration within the ASEAN–India partnership.
