Officially known as the Jakarta Redevelopment Project, the development represents a comprehensive transformation of the Embassy of India’s premises on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. The project has been conceived as a state-of-the-art diplomatic campus that will bring together administrative functions, regional engagement, cultural outreach, and residential facilities within a single, highly secure complex.
A Landmark Redevelopment
Built on a 6,916-square-metre site, the redevelopment project includes the design and construction of:
- A modern Chancery for diplomatic and consular operations.
- Facilities for the Indian Mission to ASEAN, strengthening India’s engagement with the regional bloc from Jakarta.
- The Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC), which will serve as a vibrant hub for cultural diplomacy, exhibitions, performances, educational programs, and community engagement.
- Dedicated residential accommodation for Embassy officials and diplomatic staff.
The integrated development has been carefully planned to support India’s expanding diplomatic, economic, cultural and people-to-people engagement with Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.
Indonesian Expertise Behind the Design
An important aspect of the project is the contribution of Indonesian engineering and architectural expertise.
PT BITA Enarcon Engineering (BITA) emerged as the winner of the Embassy’s design competition and was subsequently awarded the engineering design and construction management consultancy for the redevelopment project. Their selection reflects the collaboration between Indian and Indonesian professionals in delivering a diplomatic complex that meets international standards while responding to Jakarta’s urban environment.
The project showcases the growing cooperation between the two countries not only in diplomacy and trade but also in architecture, engineering and sustainable urban development.
Architecture Designed for the Future
Unlike many diplomatic compounds that occupy large horizontal campuses, the Embassy of India has adopted a high-density vertical design in response to the limited land available within Jakarta’s diplomatic enclave.
The centerpiece of the redevelopment is an 18-storey integrated tower, designed to consolidate diplomatic functions, regional mission activities, and staff accommodation within a single secure perimeter. This vertical approach maximizes the available land while creating a highly efficient and secure diplomatic environment.
The building has been organized into distinct functional zones:
The Chancery and Indian Mission to ASEAN will house the Embassy’s political, administrative, consular and diplomatic offices, along with dedicated spaces for India’s engagement with ASEAN. This integration will enhance coordination and strengthen India’s role in regional diplomacy.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC) will occupy a dedicated public-facing wing featuring exhibition spaces, event venues, classrooms and a community auditorium. As India’s cultural gateway in Indonesia, the Centre will continue to promote Indian art, music, dance, yoga, language, literature and educational exchanges.
Staff Residences will provide secure on-site apartments exclusively for diplomats and Embassy personnel. Integrating residential accommodation within the diplomatic compound is a distinctive feature of the redevelopment, enhancing operational efficiency while meeting stringent international security standards.
Supporting infrastructure will include secure access points, advanced perimeter protection systems, internal service facilities and modern utilities designed to meet the operational requirements of a contemporary diplomatic mission.
The Embassy has emphasized that the entire complex is intended exclusively for diplomatic and residential purposes, with no commercial activities planned within the compound.

The redevelopment comes at a significant moment in India–Indonesia relations.
