Indoindians Celebrates 25 Years Online: A Quarter-Century of Connecting India and Indonesia
Jakarta, Indonesia – 2025: Indoindians proudly celebrates 25 years online—an extraordinary journey of bridging communities, nurturing connections, and becoming the heartbeat of the Indian diaspora in Indonesia.
What started in 2000 as a humble effort to provide information for newcomers to Indonesia has grown into the definitive portal for Indians in Indonesia. From its vibrant website to buzzing social media channels, Indoindians has blossomed into a dynamic ecosystem that connects over 200,000 active users every month and reaching tens of thousands more through its newsletter, social media platforms and WAGs.
The Seed That Grew into a Community Giant
Two and a half decades ago, founders Poonam and Rajat Sagar arrived in Jakarta with curiosity and courage but little guidance. The bustling city was full of opportunities but lacked information in English for expats, especially Indians looking to settle in, shop, study, or simply find community.
What began as a dream to create an “information bridge” became Indoindians.com—a one-stop hub that reflects the spirit of togetherness. As Poonam recalls:
“When we first came to Indonesia, the Indian community felt large but scattered. Indoindians was our way to bring everyone together on the one platform we knew best—technology.”
Connecting Cultures, Celebrating Diversity
Over 25 years, Indoindians has woven a tapestry of shared heritage between India and Indonesia. From the timeless tales of the Mahabharata and Ramayana to Bollywood’s vibrant influence in Indonesia, the portal celebrates the cultural kinship between these two ancient civilizations.
Whether it’s helping newcomers navigate life in Indonesia or showcasing the achievements of second- and third-generation Indian-Indonesians, Indoindians has become more than a website—it’s home.
A Hub of Information and Inspiration
Indoindians thrives on original, exclusive content that resonates deeply with the community. Its three core pillars—The Indian community of Indonesia, News & Events, and Culture & Society—offer:
✅ Guides on where to live, shop, pray, and study.
✅ Heartfelt interviews with inspiring personalities.
✅ Updates on events, festivals, and opportunities.
The Indoindians Weekly Newsletter, now reaching 20,000+ subscribers, keeps the diaspora connected to what matters most.
Offline and Online: Building Bridges Beyond the Screen
Indoindians has never been confined to the digital space. Its signature events—Diwali Bazaars, Holi Color Runs, workshops, and competitions—are woven into the fabric of Jakarta’s Indian community.
By collaborating closely with the Embassy of India, Indian Women’s Association, and other organizations, Indoindians has amplified its impact, creating spaces where friendships blossom and partnerships thrive.
A Platform with Purpose
For many advertisers and partners, Indoindians is more than a platform; it’s a trusted companion. Businesses that started small found loyal audiences here. Community members seeking jobs, homes, or schools found answers here.
“Indoindians is like a virtual ambassador, blending the best of India and Indonesia into one inclusive community,” says Nagesh Chawla.
A Legacy of Togetherness: 25 Years and Beyond
As Indoindians celebrates this silver milestone, the journey feels both nostalgic and forward-looking.
The founders, team, contributors, and community members are united in one vision: to keep growing, keep connecting, and keep celebrating this vibrant diaspora.

As Indoindians steps into its 26th year, its mission remains clear: to nurture connections, support the Indian diaspora, and celebrate the cultural synergy of India and Indonesia.
