Indoindians organised a Guided Tour of Indonesian National Museum with Indonesian Heritage Society museum guide, in English.
Museum Nasional Tour – Highlights
Indonesian Heritage Society provides free guided tours in association with and at the Museum Nasional Indonesia as per a fixed schedule and also on special request. Under this program a special tour was organized by Indonesian Heritage Society on Saturday, 18 July 2026. It was planned to be a 90 minute tour of the museum, attended by a total of 16 guests, led by two IHS Docents – Pooja and Vimmy. The tour covered the main sections across the museum.
Starting with Sejarah Awal or Early History in Building A, tracing the archipelago from ancient geological formation through early life, earliest human migration, to the first human cultures and figurative cave art, to metalwork and earliest discovered writing evidence. The highlight of this section was the repatriated Homo Erectus of The Java Man fossil, returned from the Netherlands as is also the Stegodon Flores replica. The story of the evolution of the modern homo sapiens is a fascinating one.
There is of course the towering big map where one could just ponder over the trade routes, the very many islands, the language migration routes, the ethnographic depiction of the many people and cultures of Indonesia. A turn and a short flight of stairs away is the Numismatics section and the Pendar collection of antique lamps.
Focussing the attention to the stone courtyard next, there are stories encapsulated in these timeless andesite rocks; the stories of the mighty kingdoms of Srivijaya and Mataram, Kediri and Singhosari and many more.

Crossing through to Semai, on the way to the second floor, is a celebration of the amazing culture and history around agriculture and cultivation, cooking and recipes, spice trade and wars. One among the many fascinating items on display is the tiny boat made of only cloves.
Going up to the second floor is the Misykat exhibit, the story of the advent of Islam to Indonesia, through trade and travellers, through Wali Songos and the rise of Islamic Civilisation in Indonesia.
Further up on the third floor are numerous displays of the history of the struggle for Independence from the Dutch and the Japanese that culminates in the highlight display of a celebration of Indonesia and its richness, oneness and diversity in all so many ways.
