SHAKTI! India . Indonesia
One Energy. Many Expressions. One Rhythm.
Friday, 16 October 2026 | 3:00–6:00 PM
Registration from 2:30 PM
BINUS University, Lobby Area, Jl. Hang Lekir I No. 6, Jakarta
What happens when the rich dance traditions of India and Indonesia come together to celebrate the Divine Feminine?
You get SHAKTI! — an afternoon of dance, stories, culture and connection, presented by Indoindians in collaboration with BINUS University, during the auspicious period of Navaratri.
Shakti represents the divine feminine energy — the creative, nurturing, courageous and transformative force that takes many forms. Through dance and storytelling, SHAKTI! explores these different expressions across Indian and Indonesian traditions.
A Journey Through Dance
The afternoon will be guided by Sindhu Raj, Bharatanatyam teacher, event partner and Sutradhar (Pemandu Cerita & Pertunjukan). Rather than simply presenting a series of performances, Sindhu will weave the program together through stories, narration and insights into the traditions behind the dances.
The journey will include a special Navaratri Bharatanatyam presentation by Sindhu Raj and her students, followed by performances representing other Indian classical traditions, including Kuchipudi by Shravanti Ralhan.
The audience will also experience the colour and energy of Bollywood and Bhangra, alongside the beauty of Balinese, Javanese and other Indonesian dance traditions.
From Watching to Participating
SHAKTI! is designed to be interactive too.
Guests will have an opportunity to discover the language of Indian classical dance through a short workshop introducing basic movements and hastas (mudras). There will also be a Bollywood flashmob, an interactive Bhangra experience, and an introduction to Indian culture through a saree-draping demonstration.
A curated India Experience Zone will feature henna, sarees, Indian jewelry and selected cultural pop-ups.
One Stage. Two Cultures.
One of the highlights will be a specially created India × Indonesia collaborative showcase, bringing Indian and Indonesian dancers together in an artistic dialogue.
Selected BINUS students and staff will also have the opportunity to work with the performers and become part of the program — creating a genuine exchange between the university and the wider Indo-Indonesian community.
The afternoon will culminate in “ONE RHYTHM”, bringing participating dancers and BINUS students together for a celebratory finale.

Bolly’D® (Bollywood Fitness Dance) is a structured fitness dance program developed by Irma Kusuma Dewi, the founder and creator. The program incorporates music from Bollywood films and India’s Top 40 charts, blending Bollywood dance elements (semi-classical, folk, etc.) with contemporary styles
such as hip hop, jazz, and modern dance. These movements are adapted into fitness-oriented routines using the “Easy Movement” concept, designed to
make participation accessible to individuals of all skill levels.
Despite its simplicity and enjoyable format, Bolly’D® is highly effective in promoting physical health. A single 60-minute session can result in an estimated
