The Oath Stone of Seven Serpents 🐍✨

📍 Telaga Batu Inscription, 7th century Srivijaya
Now at the National Museum, Jakarta.

Carved from massive andesite (118 cm tall, 148 cm wide), this ancient slab looks like something out of legend. Crowned with seven cobra heads adorned with jeweled crests, their flat hoods merge into the stone like eternal guardians. Around their necks, stone-carved necklaces shimmer in silence.

At the base, a spout—awaits the flow of ritual water…

💧 Water poured from the top, streaming like a sheet across 28 lines of oaths and curses, then flowing through the spout.
🤲 Officials caught it in their hands as they swore loyalty to the ruler.

But beware—this Pallawa inscription, written in Old Malay with traces of Sanskrit, called upon cosmic forces:

Loyal subjects were blessed 🌟

Betrayers would face sickness, ruin, and disgrace ⚡

No one was exempt—not even princes, judges, captains, craftsmen, or palace sweepers.

✨ Telaga Batu wasn’t just stone. It was Srivijaya’s living oath—binding souls by water, serpent, and curse.
