Every 21 April, Indonesians commemorate Hari Kartini (Kartini’s Day).A day to celebrate Indonesian woman of empowerment – Raden Ajeng Kartini, or more popular with Ibu Kartini. This is akin to International Women’s Day and the focus is the issue of women empowerment. All across Indonesia, female students and teachers in schools dress in Kebaya.

One of unique facts about kebaya that will surprise you is the name “kebaya” is believed to have been derived from the Portuguese word “caba” or “cabaya,” meaning “tunic.” Over time, the kebaya evolved, becoming a blend of women’s blouses and batik sarongs, especially popular among Dutch and Southeast Asian women during the Dutch East Indies era, offering a modest and practical option suitable for tropical climates.

The Wakatobi Islands in Southeast Sulawesi, Indone

The Wakatobi Islands in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, are a treasure trove of outstanding coral and the amazing biodiversity. This park is located in the Asia-Pacific World Coral Triangle and listed as a tentative World Heritage Site in 2005. It is even included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2012.

Wakatobi is an acronym for the islands of the Tukangbesi Archipelago, the four main islands being 𝐖𝐀-ngi- Wangi, 𝐊𝐀ledupa, 𝐓𝐎mia and 𝐁𝐈nongko. With mild currents, the islands are a great place for beginner divers, as they offer so much untouched underwater scenes, which is perfect for every diver!
