The city of Bordeaux is one of France’s most vibrant, exciting, and dynamic cities. People used to call this city a ‘Sleeping Beauty’, but now she is wide awake and ready to welcome travelers from all around the world. The new LGV Sud-Ouest line, due to completion in mid-2017, connects the city with Europe’s high-speed train network, thus cuts travel time from Paris to just two hours. This city is also the largest urban World Heritage site, and world-class architects have designed more new buildings—the Herzod & de Meuron stadium (2015), decanter-shaped La Cite du Vin (2016), and Jean-Jacques Bosc Bridge (2018) across the Garonne River.

When to visit: during spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November). Around these times, the city experiences a dip in the tourist rush and is the perfect time to witness the harvest season. If you want to see the festivals, fairs, events or flea markets, it is better to visit the city in June.
